I’m borrowing the title of this page from the site Ryan created for Della when she was born, The Della Daily Dose. My goal for this page is to write 1 thing daily about or for Della, and the briefer the better. I read about a similar idea on the day of her first birthday and thought it would be an interesting way to chronicle a year of her life. Seeing how I was not blogging when she was born and am terrible about keeping up with my pen-to-paper journal, I thought I’d give it a try on here. And so I give you a dedicated space for The D Daily Dose.
(FYI, because I write so much about these kids, their pages are all broken into yearly chunks so as not to crash my site. I’ll keep the current year on the main page for ease of use. Enjoy!)

We had your follow-up appointment with the back doctor today to check your scoliosis, and unfortunately it has progressed just a bit. The curvature they’re watching was 3 degrees higher than it was in August, which could be actual progression or it could be just within the “allowable” error range from that measurement. But we’re going back once more this August to make sure either way. So you haven’t graduated from Dr. Tassone quite yet.
Also today, you made the most amazing tacos for dinner! You made pico de gallo from scratch to go on them, you even pan fried the tortillas once they were filled with the toppings so they kept their shape, and they were outstanding. It was quite an effort on your part, but definitely worth it. They were so delicious, even Daddy had seconds! Avit immediately requested them for his new birthday dinner. 😀 Thank you!

Tonight was your Winter Formal dance, and fortunately it was at the newly renovated Fox Bay Theater, which is now called The Argo, just up the street. You and 2 of your good friends went together and went out to a great sushi place down the street from the theater for dinner ahead of time, so I know that was good. You said the dance itself was the usual – not great – but you said it was fun since you 3 were together. And you said the new place looks really cool inside, so I can’t wait to see it, too. You looked beautiful, no matter how boring the dance was!

Your girls basketball team made it to State, so the whole school got to go up to Green Bay today to watch the game! The school got 7 school buses and drove everyone up there at 1:00 so you had a half day, you all watched the game, then they got you back home around 7:00. It was $20 to take the bus and $12 for the game ticket, so well worth it. You said it was so much fun, and the girls won! (They played the next day and ended up winning State!)

Snow day!! It was so random, because until about 9:00 last night there was nothing but rain! But the school district emailed us all around 7:00pm, saying that due to the forecasted gale-force winds plus predicted snow, they were preemptively cancelling everything for today. Daddy even got off work, too! And I guess it was a good thing they did, because it turned into a total blizzard overnight. I don’t think we’ve ever had a March snow day before!

Today was your third and final day of lacrosse tryouts for this spring, and you’re on JV again. You said you’re actually really happy about it because it’s more fun and relaxed than varsity, plus none of the girls on varsity who play your position graduated last year. Your whole group of good friends are all together on JV again, too, except for your best friend who made varsity, so you’re very excited to stay together with them. I’m so proud of you, peanut! I said I don’t care what team you play on, as long as you’re having fun. You said you are, so that’s good enough for me! I ordered a sweatshirt for this year, too, so at least now I’ll be warm cheering on the sidelines!

Now the boys basketball team made it to State, so you guys got to do the same thing this Friday, except you’re in Madison. So much fun! (They ended up winning State, too!)

You got your ears double pierced today. You’ve been asking for a while, and since you guys are on spring break right now, I was like yeah, why not. You picked a little pair of clear rhinestone studs, and they’re really pretty!

You left for your HOSA State competition today, and you were so excited! Your team includes 5 girls and your topic is mental health in teens, which I think is an absolutely wonderful topic these days. What I didn’t realize was that there are way more groups competing, so there are quite a few people going from your school. You’re going to the Dells for 3 days and staying at a water park hotel, and you’re going to have so much fun. You only have 1 competition, then it’s pretty much play time, including a morning walk/run and yoga, for the rest of the time. You were so cute getting all your stuff packed up this morning, and you even used my Big Ten garment bag from college to take one of my suits that I wore in New York for your presentation day! You guys are so lucky with the experiences you get through your schools, and I’m so happy we live here so you can.

Lacrosse season is in full swing, and you’re doing so much better than last year already! You score goals in almost every game (I’ve seen you score 2 goals in 2 different games already), and you’re much faster and more aggressive on the field. I think running cross country in the fall for conditioning definitely helped.
