M’s Musings

Following in his sisters’ footsteps, here is Morrison’s journal page. It won’t really be his own personal musings, obviously. We just thought that would be a catchy title. Follow along to see what life as a boy is like in this household – something new and different for sure!

(FYI, because I write so much about these kids, their pages are all broken into yearly chunks so as not to crash my site. I’ll keep the current year on the main page for ease of use. Enjoy!)

Happy New Year, skittle! You guys actually got off school today for an extreme cold warning, and you were thrilled! You all did an amazing job together and played restaurant all day, with a couple of you alternating servers and chefs. You made menus, set the table, and played cafe music and everything! I loved watching you guys orchestrate it all as I worked alongside you at the dining room table.

You had your Little League baseball evaluations today, and you came home so excited! You said it was the best one yet, none of your partners were jerks, you did great, you saw some of your friends, and 3 of your coaches from last spring/summer’s team were there. I would be ecstatic if you were on the Hot Rods again, but I’m not sure if they have the same teams year after year or not. But either way, I can’t wait to watch you back on the field this spring, and you can’t wait to get out there!

You and the twins are all home sick today. Avit had a fever at bedtime last night and Nat had diarrhea in the middle of the night, then you had diarrhea this morning, too. We’re definitely not taking that to school! I hope you all feel better after a day of good rest at home.

You’re on the Red Wings for Little League this spring and summer! The Hot Rods aren’t the same team with your coach from last year, so I wasn’t bummed that you didn’t get placed on that one again. You’ve had just one practice so far that Daddy took you to, and you both said your coach is really good and you had a lot of fun. I can’t wait for the games to start and to see you back in action on the field!

You are such an amazing helper. You’ve been in heaven helping Daddy clean up the next-door garage and work in the “man cave,” and you’ve been really getting into cooking lately. You’ve wanted to make smash burgers forever, so I’m letting you make those for your dinner-of-choice to help with this week. Then today you told me you want to make a different egg dish every day over spring break. Yesterday you made eggs in a hole, which you made me for lunch today, too, and this morning you made an omelet. Then this afternoon you looked up how to make hollandaise sauce because you want to tackle eggs Benedict next. I love it! I hope you all pick up skills in the kitchen like Daddy, because I never did and I hate to cook. You can all be my personal chefs. 😁 I love you so much, skittle, and am intrigued watching you grow into your big-kid self.

So your helping skills are paying off big time! Your smash burgers were amazing, you’ve helped Daddy build a storage shed for next door, and Daddy’s even made you your own little website where you’ll be able to list jobs for hire! He bought a log splitter for the big logs from the trees we and our neighbors have had taken down recently, so you guys will start there. I love it!

You hit your first out-of-the-park home run today!! I can’t even believe it! Of course I didn’t get to the game in time and missed seeing it in person, but thankfully your coaches subscribe to the game live streams and sent me the clip. It was so exciting! Daddy couldn’t believe it either, and we are so SO proud of you, kiddo! You’re having so much fun with baseball, and that’s all that matters. I love watching you play and seeing how much fun you have on that field. I also love that you still can’t wait to get to do track – I think you’ll be even better at that than you are at baseball right now!

Happy 10th birthday, kiddo!! You’re so excited because today is a Saturday, so you get a fast food meal of your choice. I said you could pick McDonald’s for breakfast or Taco Bell for lunch, and Taco Bell it was! So I took you over there to pick it up, which you loved. Then Daddy made your requested smash burgers for dinner, as well as taking all you guys frisbee golfing at a park just a few blocks from our house this morning. We also picked up your DQ cookies n’ cream blizzard birthday cake and had to try the Superman birthday cake cookie dough blizzard as well – delicious! You had a really fun day just playing and relaxing, and you said that was all you wanted. I can’t believe you’re in double digits now, but you are becoming the most wonderful big-kid version of one of the most wonderful little kids I have ever known. We love you so much, Skittle, and I hope you have so many more fun, relaxing birthdays ahead!
